Carla Berra
MEET THE ARTIST
Hi, I’m Carla! Thank you for visiting my website and taking an interest in my work. I came from very creative parents and I'm proud to share and perpetuate their love of the arts. My dad, George, was an extremely talented painter and art teacher and my mother, Maria, is an amazing pianist who also teaches. I was immersed in the arts while I was still in the womb! I enjoyed taking part in various art forms throughout my childhood with both my parents. I studied at the Art Students’ League in New York City, the Center for Ceramic Arts in Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey, the Montclair Art Museum and Yard School of Art in Montclair, New Jersey and the Art School at Old Church in Demarest, New Jersey.
When I make pottery, I feel relaxed. I love the process of coming up with an idea and making it come to life on the wheel, of trying again and again until the piece is exactly as I had imagined it. It has taught me patience and perseverance, and I enjoy the satisfaction of holding in my hands a finished piece that will remain long after I am gone.
I enjoy creating fun, new designs, both practical and whimsical, in an array of colors that I know people will enjoy. Some of my favorite pieces are the ones I have created at the special request of loved ones: a castle I made for my son, who loves medieval adventure novels, a unique tray I made for another son who likes to cook, to his exact specifications, a mug I made for a friend who likes to curl up with a coffee and a good book. It makes me happy that my pottery fits into the lives of other people and makes them happy.
I hope you enjoy my one-of-a-kind creations!
